The port of Jaffa is said to be one of the oldest ports in the world and is still used by local fishermen, who go out with their boats in the early morning to the Mediterranean sea. Many restaurants there prepare menus from what they bring in. Fish and seafood like oysters, shrimp, crab and calamari, fried or grilled, together with a selection of the typical small salads of Arabic culture, a plate of humus with pitas, and a cool beer, make a super tasty meal for lunch and dinner. Israelis and tourists as well love this historical place. A walk along the shore gives a view of many old and new boats and ships, and of the gorgeous sea with the skyline of Tel Aviv in the distance.

We had a birthday to celebrate and went fishing for lunch. Instead of ordering individual we asked for a mixed large plate - no disappointment here, it was just very good. Many times we took guests from abroad there and it always was a success and fun outing.

With a lovely half hour walk you can arrive at the flea market with its many stalls of about everything. Or you can just stay there and have coffee with your feet up and listen to the waves...
