"...friendship between a man and a woman is something much more
precious and rare than love: love is actually quite gross and even
clumsy compared to friendship. Friendship includes a measure of
sensitivity, attentiveness, generosity, and a finely-tuned sense of
moderation." Amos Oz (A Tale of Love and Darkness - great read, very much recommended)
Love should be accompanied by this sort of friendship. Perhaps that only happens between two people who know and like each other well. Even husband wife could be so lucky.
I would suppose it depends on how one defines love. Is it romantic love? Love of filial attatchment? And the definition of friendship. The way Amos Oz describes it would be calm bliss--and I think it would include the element of 'time' and 'self-regard'. A great theme to think about, Yael.
are you reading it Yael? ;)
ReplyDeleteit does sound like a wonderful friendship. I would think that would also be a form of love.
